Cliff College Summer School

Monday 18th Friday 22nd June 2012

Cliff College is offering an expanded Summer School programme for 2012 which, co-ordinated by Ian White and featuring other Cliff College tutorial staff and guest lecturers, will include three strands of teaching to choose from:

Encounters with The World: Mission Summer School

This will offer an overview of issues relating to mission and evangelism and will offer a practical field trip experience in the locality within the programme. It is ideal for anyone wanting to explore mission and with a heart for reaching out to others with the gospel.

Greek in a Week: Biblical Language Summer School

This will offer a framework to begin exploring the language of the New Testament. It is iIdeal for those wanting a starter course in this key area, for fellowship group leaders and preachers too.

Explorations in The Word: Bible Summer School

This will offer a deeper look into two books of the Bible Psalms from the Old Testament and John from the New Testament. Ideal for those wanting to go deeper into the text, for fellowship group leaders and preachers too.

*NEW*

Wesley Summer School Monday 20 Friday 24 August, 2012

This programme is for people who want to study the theology of the Wesleys and spirituality of early Methodism, as a way of reflecting on the challenges of discipleship today. John and Charles Wesley are approached as spiritual mentors whose wisdom can help us explore patterns of renewal and mission in the contemporary Church. The teaching is designed for lay or ordained people of all traditions.

All Summer School participants will share together in social times, meals, devotions, evening worship and a reading of The Gospel of John event we are planning for the Wednesday evening, which will be open to the local community. Don't worry, there's even time to go off site to Chatsworth or the local coffee shop! The three strands will be delivered through approximately 1012 separate seminars, discussion groups, interactive workshops and lectures. The Mission strand also has a field trip component within the timetable.

So, is this for you in 2012? You might be contemplating a course here at Cliff maybe this is a way to get to know the college and gear up for study? You might be on a Cliff course already but want further Biblical and missional knowledge? Maybe you are studying as a Methodist Local Preacher, or just want a refresher course for your worship and preaching? You might even just want to come on a study retreat to beautiful Derbyshire. If any of this sounds like you, then why not join us this year?

Latest news: 60 places available for 2012 and applications arriving for all three streams. Currently 34 booked in (January end), and great interest in 'Greek in a Week' hosted by Peter Ensor! Spaces still free on all three streams.

Summer School 2011 open bible

In June 2011 we had our first very successful Bible Summer School, and the 30 participants aged 17–70+ years had a wonderful week of teaching, fellowship and sunshine here in the Derbyshire countryside. This is what some of them said:

‘An amazing week'; ‘Very welcoming'; ‘A special atmosphere'; ‘Lectures were spot on'; ‘A truly amazing experience God's timing is great'; ‘I feel I have truly begun the journey I should have started years ago as a Christian'; ‘Meeting with other Christians from all walks of life has been inspiring'; ‘I have been really blessed'; ‘Inspired me to carry on preaching'; ‘It makes me realise how much I still need to learn!'
