MA in Mission (Christian Mentoring)

MA, Diploma and Certificate (part time)

This stream is designed for lay or ordained persons, from all traditions, who are interested in exploring the challenges of Christian mentoring. If you are looking for a stream that brings a missional emphasis to the practice of contemporary Christian mentoring, then this is the one for you! The stream is delivered part time.

There are two core units of study for the Mission (Christian Mentoring) stream.

  • Theology of Christian Mentoring main themes include a study of historic and contemporary Christian mentoring, biblical and theological approaches to Christian mentoring and spirituality in mentoring.  The unit is assessed by a 6000-7000 word paper.
  • Critical Reflections on the Person of the Mentor main themes include an exploration of the context of mentoring, the practice of mentoring and managing the mentoring process in a church or organisation.  The unit is assessed by a 6000-7000 word paper.

This stream can be undertaken at a number of different levels:

  1. Postgraduate Certificate in Mission (Christian Mentoring): a two-year part-time course incorporating the two units of study.
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Mission (Christian Mentoring): a two-year part-time course incorporating the two core units of study and two units of study from across the syllabus.
  3. MA in Mission (Christian Mentoring): a two-year part-time course incorporating the two units of study AND two units of study from across the syllabus, plus a Masters level dissertation of 12–15,000 words.

There is one residential week usually in Feburary each year. The two units specific to the course are delivered in alternating years. It is expected that students will work on average 12 hours a week for 30 weeks in each year in addition to researching a dissertation, if required. Full-time students will complete all the units relevant to their course in a year (up to four for MA level), and have until the following March to submit a dissertation if required.

If you are looking for a course that will go wide in its grasp of the subject, deep into some key themes, and will prepare you for the challenges of our day, then this is the course for you!
