Diploma in Theology
Full Time Undergraduate Study
BA in Theology : Diploma Year
As well as being the second year of the BA in Theology, this year can act as a Diploma in Higher Education awarded by the University of Manchester.
The Diploma in Theology is a 120 credit point course of study, entry into which is normally through the completion of the Certificate in Theology, and which represents a further year of full-time study (or its equivalent). Students complete a core of 2 units of 20 credit points and 4 units of 10 credit points each, plus a further 40 credit points of elective units. In addition to the units listed, students may complete a programme in Study Skills in semester 1 so as to facilitate the production of assigned work.

Teaching and Assessment
The majority of the teaching of the Diploma year is undertaken by permanent faculty members, with the addition of adjunct lecturers who bring particular expertise either for a single session, or for a course unit. Teaching styles are varied, though all sessions include opportunities for discussion and questions, reflection, and often group work. The performance of students is assessed in a number of ways across the course, including essay writing, presentation of seminars, examinations and portfolios.
Students are also involved in 10 days of church-based mission at Eastertime, and a mission placement through the year which involves a commitment to 3 hours a week during term time. These placements vary considerably in location and type of work, and can include working with youth or childrens' groups, taking school assemblies, engaging in hosptial chaplaincy, being a street pastor, working in centres for the homeless and much more.
Students on the Diploma level of the BA course, through lectures, mission and simply being part of the Cliff community, are challenged to explore theology, biblical studies, mission and practice in greater depth. This leads to lots of time spent thinking, grappling with proposals and concepts, trying out ideas in practice - and ultimately growing as disciples, practitioners and leaders.
