MA in Mission (Leadership, Renewal & Worship)

MA, Diploma and Certificate (Full or part time)

The programme in Leadership, Renewal and Worship is for people who want to think through the nature and practice of leadership in the contexts of church renewal, worship and mission.

It is designed for lay or ordained persons, from all traditions, who are interested in exploring the contemporary challenges to Christian spirituality, church leadership, worship and the ministry of evangelism through the discipline of postgraduate level study and personal research.

There are three main units of study which cover a range of themes [any two of the three units are required for the stream]:

  • Leadership: Ministry and Mission main themes include Christian leadership and the Church in ministry and mission
  • Renewal: Spirituality and Discipleship main themes include catechesis and Christian initiation; the Holy Spirit and spiritual renewal and the spiritual life and Christian discipleship.
  • Leadership: Worship and Mission: main themes include worship as it relates to mission, culture and spiritual formation.

Each unit is assessed by a 6,000 - 7000 word assignment.

This programme can be undertaken either part-time or full-time at a number of different levels:

  1. Postgraduate Certificate in Mission (Leadership, Renewal & Worship): a one-year part-time course incorporating the two units of study
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Mission (Leadership, Renewal & Worship): a one-year full-time or two-year part-time course incorporating the two units of study and EITHER two units from the syllabus OR one unit from the syllabus plus a Diploma level dissertation of 6,000 words
  3. MA in Mission (Leadership, Renewal & Worship): a one-year full-time or two-year part-time course incorporating the two units of study AND two units from the syllabus plus a Masters level dissertation of 1215,000 words.

There are three units for this stream, two of which are run on alternate years so for part-time students, there are two residential weeks in a year (early October and February), each of which introduce one unit of study. It is expected that part-time students will work on average 12 hours a week for 30 weeks in each year in addition to researching a dissertation, if required. Full-time students will complete all the units relevant to their course in a year (up to four for MA level), and have until the following March to submit a dissertation, if required.

If you are looking for a programme that brings an emphasis upon the privileges, pressures and challenges facing Christian leaders in the vocation of mission and evangelism today, then this is the one for you!
