The college is again delivering an ecumenical training course in partnership with the Diocese of Sheffield and co-sponsored by Sheffield circuit of the Methodist Church. The Aurora Certificate in Youth Ministry is a training course for youth work volunteers based in the South Yorkshire area, but has also attracted students from across the north of England. Advice and input in course construction and theological input is offered by Cliff College. Other Aurora Certificate courses are also now available based in Derby (Children) and Southern Ireland (Youth).
Ian White, Senior Tutor acts as Course Moderator , and other Cliff staff act as occasional lecturers on the courses. Successful students within the Sheffield Diocese may earn the Bishop’s Certificate in Youth Ministry, as well as the Cliff College Certificate in Youth Ministry, depending on the level of achievement.
Open to all youth work volunteers aged 16+ from across the church life of South Yorkshire – this could be your way into the further professional training that Cliff College offers via the part time Mission and Ministry programme. A way of ‘tooling up’ your skills and thinking. For more details and to book a place, visit www.auroratraining.org.uk
The cost for the full course is only £200.00 for the academic year 2017-18. A year long course, starting September, the teaching schedule includes three Saturdays (1 per term) alongside 8 monthly Wednesday evenings (7-9 pm) in Rotherham. Weekly on-line learning tasks are to be completed in the students’ own time.
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu: “I am delighted that my Youth Trust awarded a grant to the YMCA White Rose in 2012 to build a website in support of the Aurora Youth and Children’s Ministry Courses. ‘When presented with a group of children, Jesus told his disciples to let them come to him and not to hinder them’. (Luke 18: 16). In the Church we sometimes need to relearn how to enable our young people to meet with Jesus and not to get in their way! The Aurora Courses offer practical training for volunteer youth and children’s workers based at local churches using the website as a training tool. If you want to be a part of this amazing ministry of helping young people and children wanting to meet with Jesus, Aurora offers a great base to pick up the skills and knowledge to grow in ministry. Go for it!”
Testimonials from Certificate in Youth Ministry graduates: “I’ve got something out of every session”. “It has been really useful to hear about other youth work settings and also Mike and Jon have been really supportive course leaders.” “I have thought a lot more about how to meet the needs of my young people.” “The course has given me so much confidence.” “I’ve been able to see what I do well and what I can improve.”
Your Cliff College Short Course Certificate in Youth Ministry may also enable you to gain credit towards a University of Manchester certificate, diploma or degree at Cliff College. Usually, a short course certificate will gain you 10-20 credits towards a validated qualification. It would mean, for instance, that instead of studying 120 credits in the first year of a degree, you only study 100-110. The awarding of credit in this way is not automatic, and must be applied for. If you would like further guidance on whether your Cliff College Short Course Certificate may contribute towards a University of Manchester qualification at Cliff College then contact the Academic Director, Dr Justin Thacker on email@example.com
