Introduction to FilmMaking

An amazing new weekend course for 2018 led by our good friends Toby and Fionn Watts of Far North Film. The ‘Introduction to FilmMaking’ weekend is going to be an amazing time of ‘hands-on’ learning! With a limit of 15 places, to allow closer group interaction and greater  individual learning – now is the time to book, as we think this is going to be a popular course!

The Introduction to FilmMaking also leads onto a week long ‘Creative FilmMaking’ course which is being planned for our August 2018 Summer School – look out for more details to be advertised shortly.

Course details

Welcomed and introduced by Ian White, Programme Leader, Short Courses, Cliff College, the weekend course is led by Toby and Fionn Watts who are Far North Film. Based in Sheffield they have a great reputation for creative film-making and storytelling. Their professional CV includes the corporate world, youth film-making, documentaries and short drama work. Check out their Showreel 2017!

The aim of the weekend is to enable attendees to learn skills in this creative area of communication.  From the initial session on Friday evening through to lunchtime on Sunday, participants will be exploring through a ‘hands-on’ approach to learning and will experience many areas of filmmaking, with opportunity for questions and discussion along the way.

“The filmmaking weekend will lead participants through the whole process of making a film from script to screen. In two separate groups, we will begin with a minimal script and discuss and develop it into a shooting script. Then we will rehearse and block out all the dramatic action with several participants who are keen to act in the film. We will get others to fill various roles such as camera, sound recording and directing, and work alongside them to facilitate the production of a short film, perhaps just a scene or two. After the shoot we will leave time to edit the films in our groups, laying down some basic sound design and music where needed, ready to screen the films at the end of our time on Sunday.

It’s going to be an exciting and creative weekend, and we look forward to learning together at Cliff College next May. Why not come and join us?”. Toby & Fionn Watts
