Certificate in Bible Engagement
Everyone needs to learn how to read the Bible! Designed for those seeking a contemporary perspective on reading the Bible, this five-day course aims to leave you with new skills and resources.
What does it mean to engage with the Bible in the 21st century? What is the nature of the Bible? How can it be creatively read and used in Christian discipleship and mission? Does the Bible have anything to say to the wider culture?
This Cliff College Certificate course is highly recommended for all who wish to learn how to read and engage with the Bible, and is ideal for those leading Bible study groups or wanting to go deeper in their understanding.
Subject areas include:
- What sort of book is the Bible? – inspiration, revelation, and how to read it
- Where does the Bible fit into our spiritual lives?
- How do we read the Bible? – different strategies to help
- How do we use it? The Bible and our personal discipleship
- The Bible and Christian living in the world – the Bible and making a difference in the world
This five-day short course is delivered at Cliff College and is led by Rev Dr Mike Parsons, with contributions by the Cliff faculty and expert adjuncts. Participants gain a Cliff College certificate by completing the required assessment work following the teaching week. Successful students will be invited to the Cliff College graduation ceremony.
The lecturers brought the Bible alive, raised issues I had never considered, and left me wanting to know more.

The cost of £375 includes all teaching materials, tutorial support and meals throughout your stay. Overnight accommodation and breakfast from Monday to Friday costs £90, with accommodation for Sunday night available at an additional cost; details of this will be sent to you via your course confirmation email.
Bookings are made through the Cliff College online shop - payment, either in full or a deposit of £75, can be made by card. If a church, employer or another person or organisation is paying for you to take this course, please complete the booking process and select 'BACs' as your Payment Method on the payment screen. This will complete your order without charging your account, and you will be emailed an invoice which can be forwarded to the party responsible for payment.

Your Cliff College short course Certificate in Bible Engagement may also enable you to gain credit towards a University of Manchester certificate, diploma or degree at Cliff College. Usually, a short course certificate will gain you 10-20 credits towards a validated qualification. It would mean, for instance, that instead of studying 120 credits in the first year of a degree, you only study 100-110. The awarding of credit in this way is not automatic and must be applied for.
