Building on our successful Introduction to Pastoral Care training days, our short course Certificate in Pastoral Care is created to stretch, inform and inspire. Designed for those who are interested in caring for people compassionately or just looking for ways to develop and reflect on current practice and learn from others, is the Certificate in Pastoral Care for you, or a member of your team?

Our world has become busy and noisy, and our days can be spent grabbing quick coffees and equally quick conversations with people around us. Regardless of circumstance, background and life choices more people are yearning for both a sense of peace and to be noticed and heard. At the heart of the Christian message is the offer of shalom, a life encompassing peace that impacts every area of a person’s life – their relationships, physical and spiritual wellbeing, and emotional wellness.

Often, and particularly in light of their experience of the past two years, people come to churches and Christian organisations at their point of need seeking this shalom. This course explores how we can compassionately and responsibly care for those in need, and will include teaching on how to respond to the collective and individual trauma of the pandemic as well as working with those who have been bereaved.

The short course is led by Jennie Fytche, with contributions from Cliff College faculty and other expert adjunct teachers and practitioners. There is time for personal reflection and social space, as well as teaching delivered via lectures, seminars and workshops with practical as well as theoretical applications. The course aims to enable new learning and provide the student with skills and resources for both individual and church application.

The course was so encouraging, and it has helped me a lot in my own ministry. The teaching sessions were good and the trainers delivered the material in a very professional manner.

In one word – WOW! I didn’t realise theological learning could be like this. Being here this week, with others and in the way we’ve been led has completely energised me and has actually made me want to write the essay and do the reading.
