Women in the Bible
'Wise Women and Prophetesses'. This Women in the Bible weekend short course is for those who want to gain a deeper insight into the stories of women in the Bible. We'll be looking in depth at some of the female characters from the Old and New Testaments and how their stories can better inform understandings of contemporary life. We'll also be hearing afresh the voices of historical and contemporary women. Runs 10-12 May 2024.
Studying the female figures in the Bible has gained a lot of interest in recent years, and keeps raising important questions for contemporary followers of Christ. Who were these women in the Bible? How should we understand their stories? What do they have to say to women and men in the contemporary church? This Cliff College course will delve deeply into the world of these and other biblical characters and address some deep-seated beliefs and questions regarding these topics. We will also raise the important question of how the Bible can be applied to the contemporary lives of women in the church, especially when in the past these texts have been used to harm women, rather than empower them.
Participants on this short course will be exploring these issues through lectures, seminars, and workshops. The weekend is open to both women and men.
