Richard joined Cliff in April 2019. He completed his PhD in Wesley and New Testament studies at Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, and he is a Junior Fellow of the Manchester Wesley Research Centre. His academic interests include Wesleyan theology and spirituality; mission and discipleship in the contemporary church; Christian leadership; applied doctrine; and New Testament studies. He is passionate about equipping Christians from all traditions to be effective disciples of Jesus, which is at the heart of his approach to theology and biblical studies.
He has previously been in leadership in the NHS and voluntary sector, and he has held many Christian leadership positions in the church and beyond. He is currently Chair of the Inspire Movement, a growing international and ecumenical discipleship movement. Originally from the Wirral, he lives in Barnsley where he is married to Margaret and serves as a lay Local Preacher. He is a lifelong Everton supporter, a perfect metaphor for living in hope of final vindication and the new creation.
