Certificate in Children’s Ministry

Many of us ‘fell’ into children’s ministry because there was no-one else to do it, and then realised just how wonderful and important it is. If you want to resource your passion and experience with the latest thinking on children’s spirituality and faith development, then this is the course for you.

Whether you have been involved in Children’s Ministry for many years, or are just starting out, this course will ground your instincts in theory and give you confidence to do what you are already doing only better or try something new.

The Certificate in Children’s Ministry course is offered in early autumn 2020, and is a week-long course designed to stretch, inform and inspire. Designed for those who are working regularly with children on a paid or volunteer basis or just looking for ways to test their calling in this area of ministry. Is the Certificate in Children’s Ministry course for you or someone in your team?

Cliff College is delighted to be running this Short Course Certificate under the course leadership of Carolyn Edwards.

There are only 30 places available on this course, so book early!

Carolyn Edwards, Course Leader

Carolyn Edwards is the Children and Youth Adviser for the Diocese of York, responsible for equipping and resourcing those working with children and young people in the 620 churches in the area. Prior to that, she was the Programme Lead for the Mission and Ministry degree courses at Cliff College, having previously worked with Oxford CYM training students in youth and children’s ministry. She has a wealth of experience both as a practitioner and a lecturer and trainer, working for her local church as a Children’s Evangelist and running events like the Scripture Union mission in Aylesbury. She has written material for Scripture Union for many years and is the author of ‘Slugs and Snails and Puppy Dogs’ Tails: Helping Boys Connect with God’ and co-editor of ‘Re-thinking Children’s work in churches’ which is coming out next year. She is currently completing doctoral research into children’s spirituality and faith development, but in her ‘spare’ time loves being with friends and family, drinking good coffee, laughing, and looking at beautiful things.

‘It will be excellent to welcome Carolyn Edwards back to Cliff College. We are really looking forward to working together on this important course focussed on our key ministry among children, both in the church, and in the wider community. Designed to both encourage and up-skill, this course provides some of the necessary theological and biblical training needed for this important area of ministry.’Ian White; Programme Leader; Short Course Programme, Cliff College.

Students say of the Short Course certificate programme: “It was all totally invaluable and I wouldn’t change a thing.” “Informative, challenging, reflective, resourcing, encouraging, enabling and empowering.” “It will be hard to hold me back on things I will do!  I need to go back, reflect, pray, discern the next steps.  But as a ‘way of doing and being’, it’s been brilliant to take that away.”

Participants gain a Cliff College Certificate by completing the required assessment work following the teaching week. Successful students will be invited to the Cliff College graduation ceremony. Students can choose not to do the assessment work by ‘auditing’ the course.
