Certificate in Pioneer Ministry

We are happy to be again running the Certificate in Pioneer Ministry course, now into its 4th year of delivery! The course is a dynamic and significant contribution to reflective practice on Pioneering and Fresh Expression, drawing together key practitioners for encouragement, discussion and learning. Are you one of them?!

The Certificate in Pioneer Ministry will be helpful to those who are active in pioneer mission and want to learn and reflect with others engaged in similar work. They are a result of collaboration between Methodist Pioneering Pathways, VentureFX and Cliff College, but are open to people of any church tradition or denomination.

“This is a key area for the church to explore. Given the creativity in new forms of church expression, the shared encouragement of the pioneering storyline, as well as input by key teachers creates a vital learning environment, which we are pleased to host here at Cliff College.” Ian White, Programme Leader, Short Courses, Cliff College

Here is some of the student feedback from the Certificate in Pioneer ministry course:

“It was perfectly relevant to the life of a Pioneer and I was left feeling affirmed”, “Well balanced and organised, with inspirational leadership”, “I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and gained a great deal of insight both personally and theologically”, “I have had a wonderful inspiring and thought provoking week”, “A good rhythm and pace with useful areas covered in a very helpful learning environment”, “I was met exactly ‘where I’m at’ with relevant, balanced content, both practical and stretching”, “A feast of usefulness and lots to chew on!”, “Felt fed spiritually and intellectually”, “Excellent venue which aided learning”.

Course Details

The course is intended for those, lay or ordained, who are involved in pioneer ministry, working with those beyond the reach of existing forms of church to form new ecclesial communities or fresh expressions of church.

The Certificate in Pioneer Ministry  course covers issues such as the characteristics and the spirituality of pioneers, and looks at the background of pioneer mission in Scripture and the life of the Church. It also looks in some depth at the distinctive missional values which underpin pioneer ministry and mission.

The course examines issues to do with forming new church communities, such as, ‘What do we mean by Church, and how will we recognise a new church when it has been formed?’ and, ‘How can new expressions of church develop well in relation to existing forms of church?’  It also addresses many of the practical matters associated with pioneering such as worship, accountability and oversight, working towards sustainability and succession planning, and explores the challenge of forming disciples of Jesus in a pioneer setting.

Our Course Leader is Andrea Campanale, Lay Mission Pioneer and Leader of Sacred Space Kingston, who will be sharing teaching with other pioneer practitioners from across the UK.

A Cliff College Certificate is awarded for attendance on the week long course and the submission of an academic assessment that achieves a pass mark.

Successful students will be invited to the Cliff College Graduation ceremony.

Course Leader, Andrea Campanale

We are delighted to welcome Andrea Campanale, Lay Mission Pioneer and Leader of Sacred Space Kingston, to be our Course Leader. Andrea has been pioneering in mission since 2005 through a project she set up called Sacred Space Kingston which seeks to engage positively with those who describe themselves as spiritual but not religious.  Seven years ago Sacred Space also became a missional community or Fresh Expression of Church that Andrea leads as a Lay Pioneer Minister.  Andrea is employed by the Church Mission Society to teach, mentor and network pioneers and, in addition she trains and equips teams of people across the country to do mission to spiritual seekers in a variety of contexts including mind, body, spirit events, car boot fairs and steam punk gatherings!
