Bursaries and financial support

Cliff College offers a range of bursaries and scholarships to enable students to access high quality theological education and training.

Unless otherwise stated, students should apply for financial support after accepting an offer of study from Cliff College; information will be sent to offer-holders about applying for these schemes. If you have any questions at this point, please contact enquiries@cliffcollege.ac.uk.

  • Applicant is an active member of the Methodist Church in Britain, or Church in family of World Methodist Council
Foundations for Mission and MinistryLay Ministry Bursary*£300
  • Applicant is in a recognised ministry post (paid or voluntary) in any church and is a student on the full Foundations for Mission and Ministry programme, comprising six units
Mission and Ministry development unitsMethodist Bursary*Variable up to £160 per unit or £800 total
  • Applicant is in active ministry or mission within the Methodist Church in Britain and is a student on one or more of the Mission and Ministry development units which includes the Foundations for Mission and Ministry programme
  • Applicant must be supported by their Methodist district or circuit in pursuing this training

*These bursaries can be applied for alongside the application for the Foundations for Mission and Ministry programme; they should be supported by a letter from your church leader. Please note that it is possible to apply for either the Methodist Bursary or the Lay Ministry Bursary, not both.

  • Designed to enable access to higher education related to ethnicity, low income neighbourhoods and disability
BA Theology & MissionCliff Mission Scholarship£2,000 (first year of award; subsequent years £1,500 if awarded)
  • Evidenced commitment to Christian mission
  • Commitment to Cliff College community role during scholarship year (may include hospitality, worship, library, estates, missions)
  • Open to full-time residential students
BA Theology & MissionLay Ministry Bursary£500, awarded annually
  • Applicant is in a recognised ministry post (paid or voluntary) in any church
  • Means tested
  • Open to part-time students

Applications for scholarships and bursaries should normally be received by 1 August, and will be allocated by 15 August.

  • Commitment to pay fees in advance for completion of programme in two years
  • Open to part-time students
MA MissionCliff Mission Scholarship

£2000, awarded annually

  • Evidenced commitment to Christian mission
  • Commitment to Cliff College community role during scholarship year (may include hospitality, worship, library, estates, missions)
  • Open to new full-time residential students completing the MA in one year

Applications for scholarships and bursaries should normally be received by 1 August, and will be allocated by 15 August.
