The Theology and Mission programme is specifically designed to equip students with biblical, theological and practical knowledge, understanding and skills for Christian mission today in a variety of contexts. The programme includes an optional pathway for Children, Youth and Family Ministry at all levels, and for Ministry Among Older People at Certificate level.
With a creative blended teaching
approach, the programme’s exceptional flexibility means students can choose to
study either onsite at our beautiful Peak District campus or online, from
anywhere in the world. The programme is available full-time and part-time,
meaning students can choose to study in ways that suit their circumstances,
whether they are seeking to grow deeper in their existing life of discipleship
and mission or exploring God’s call to a particular ministry. In this
innovative programme, students at Cliff and around the world will study
together, at the same time, in the same hybrid classroom during scheduled
teaching weeks, while also benefiting from a range of additional teaching
resources throughout the academic year suited to their mode of study.
The new BA (Hons) Theology and Mission enables us to move forward with confidence as we continue to equip men and women with the tools required for mission and ministry in today's world. This course is both academic and practical and will make the clear links between the classroom and mission on the ground in community. It will enable voices from around the world to shape each other and learn from a variety of contexts. As a College we remain committed to a being a global centre of excellence in mission and evangelism, and this course will be central to that in the coming years.
Rev Ashley Cooper, Cliff College Principal
The BA (Hons) Theology and Mission builds on the success of Cliff’s existing undergraduate programmes, which received an overall student satisfaction of 100% in this year’s National Student Survey. As both the context for Christian mission and the opportunities for study continue to change, our new programme has been designed to provide students with a stimulating curriculum and flexible modes of study that will enable even more people to access learning about the Bible, theology and mission that will deepen their discipleship and transform their engagement in God’s mission today.
For over 100 years, Cliff College has been training disciples for mission. We are really excited about the impact our new Theology and Mission programme will have in equipping people to encounter God in fresh ways and turn the world upside down by telling out the life-transforming news of Jesus. We have taken the practically-engaged training for which we are known to a new level, enabling students from around the world to study with students on campus at Cliff, learning together, enriching each other’s experience, and shaping together a new engagement with God’s global mission. With online learning elements, onsite and online classrooms, creative assessment options and a curriculum enriched by a community life of prayer and mission, we look forward to welcoming many new students to Cliff!
Rev Dr Andrew Stobart, Head of Academic Strategy
A core curriculum for all students includes units that dive deep into the Bible, the story of Christian mission through the ages and around the world, and ways of understanding the good news of Jesus in Christian theology. Alongside these units, all students will undertake a practical placement, either by joining one of Cliff’s mission trips or at another placement location agreed with the College. This practical mission experience is a key element of the programme as Cliff aims to train and prepare people for real-world mission contexts, whether in ministry roles or as disciples in everyday life.
The Children, Youth and Family Ministry pathway provides key training for those preparing for, or already working in this area, while the Ministry Among Older People pathway at Certificate level provides a foundation for this growing area of ministry. A range of options throughout the programme enable students to focus on areas of interest, such as Theology and Mission in a Digital Age; Bible, Church and the Margins; Intergenerational Church; and Leading and Pioneering in the Emerging Church.
Applications for the programme will open in October 2022. For more information or to register your interest now, please contact enquiries@cliffcollege.ac.uk.
