MA, Diploma and Certificate (part time)
Are you wanting to deepen your grasp of scripture, grapple with some of the Bible’s key themes, and see how they might impact mission today? The BTM pathway investigates the biblical theological patterns and missional frameworks that may be observed through critical reflection on major Old and New Testament texts. Such themes include the mission of Israel; poverty; missional hospitality; wisdom; Christology; New Covenant; apostolic mission; political engagement; prophetic witness; and the kingdom of God.
Course Details
There are two main units of study which cover a range of themes:
BTM1: Biblical Theology and Mission: Old Testament
Main themes include:
- key patterns in Biblical theology
- introduction to the Hebrew Bible
- engagement with the mission of Israel
- analysis of specific OT texts including Genesis, Exodus, Kings & Chronicles, Wisdom Literature, Prophets
- evaluation of contemporary biblical theologies.
BTM2: Biblical Theology and Mission: New Testament
Main themes include:
- key patterns in biblical theology
- introduction to the New Testament's use of the Old Testament
- the mission of the Church
- analysis of specific texts including the gospels, Acts, Pauline epistles and Johannine literature
- evaluation of contemporary biblical theologies.
Students who successfully complete these two units will obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Mission (Biblical Theology). Students wishing to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma or MA in Mission (Biblical Theology) may take these two units and any two other units from the programme, plus a dissertation for the MA.
